Lanka town is located in Hojai district of Assam. The town which was a growing urban center of the State only a few years back especially in terms of the agricultural based trading, has now grown emerged as a premier trading center with the completion of the East West Corridor that bifurcates the town boundary. Lanka is 20KM from Hojai town, the district headquarter and 12KM southwest of Sankardevnagar, the Deputy Commissioner headquarter. Lanka is 190 KM southeast of Dispur, Guwahati the State Capital. Lanka Town Committee was formed in the year 1975 and upgraded to Municipality in 2007. Lanka town area is 839.2 Hectare as per the survey based on which the present proposal has been prepared and has 11 wards. Lanka is an important railway station of North East Frontier Railways and plays an important role in the trading activities of Karbi Anglong district, Lanka being the last urban center leading to this important district of the hills of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar. The town is located at 26054’ north latitude and 92054’ east.
